J.E #5

"Bodies on the Border" is a documentary about those who have lost there lives while attempting to come into the United States.  Those bodies are then tried to be identified.  The bodies are trying to be identified by forensic measures and the simple objects they carry with them on there trip.  To me it was really hard to watch because even though 66% of bodies are identified what about all of the other people who go unidentified.  They are just there in that facility not being put to rest as a corpse should be.  Families never having closure on what really happened to there loved ones.  To me it was very disturbing to watch and thanking God that my parents and brothers were able to make it safety to the United States in there Journey.  Back to the point though and how it relates to the "Flower in the Skull" well we can start by talking about people bing separated and sometimes not having any closure as to what happen to there families.  When shark tooth was first separated from her dad then her mom and brother then sisters she didn't know what had happened to them or what had become of them.  She then gets closure when she finds her sisters and brother of what had happened to them and there mother; but her father she never really got closure on what happened to him or able to morn his death.  Which is what happens when bodies are found on the border sometimes families will get closure and sometimes they will never know.

Another important factor is that the United States doesn't really care about all the deaths that happen on the border.  There intentions on immigration reform is just to keep immigrants out of the United States.  In the film it talks about how stricter border security can potentially save lives but immigrants will always find a way to come into the United States.  Saving immigrants lives though doesn't even come across to any of the politicians when they were writing the new immigration reform though. They don't care about immigrants and it could be tithed back to what we talk about every day in class this notion as brown isn't good enough so who cares what happens to them.  Its all about the Anglo race and trying to perfect it.  Well in the story the Apache didn't care about the Opta lives either.  Just as the Mexicans didn't care about the Apache or Opta.  Then the Anglos not caring about the Mexican-Apache-and defiantly the Opta.  This issue about not caring about HUMAN lives is very dehumanizing. Only caring for one race and having a hierarchy like a food chain for humans is just sad.  A lot of the stuff that occurs is ugh I don't even have any words to explain all the madness!
