My list
goes as follows for the Angel family:
·
Mama Chona 8
·
Angie 5
·
Felix 4
·
Miguel Grande 8
·
Juanita 4
·
Lola 6
·
JoEl 6
·
Nina 4
·
Lena 1
I gave Mama Chona an 8 because she is
suffering from cultural schizophrenia badly. She does not like Indians and
resents people that look Indian within the family; she also does not like to
get her skin dark, least she looks like Indians.
I gave Angie a 3 because she doesn’t really
show signs of cultural schizophrenia. She does show signs of being in touch with
the after-life, which may or may not be a sign that she is suffering from
historical amnesia.
I gave Felix a 5 because he suffers from a
colonized mindset from being with other men. He went as far as to not sleep
with his wife anymore in exchange for sleeping with his son. I do believe him
to be full on gay, but he does not suffer too much because he has a lot of
venues of release for his sexuality.
I gave Miguel Grande a 7 because he is very
sexist. He would rather put his own emotions in the place of his wife’s. He
feels entitled to have two women as opposed to one and does to by cheating on
his wife. Although his consciousness eventually catches up to him, he does it
never the less. He is also homophobic by telling his son that he should not
dress up in skirts for being a joto.
Miguel Chico would be a 4 on my list
because he learns to dislike the family and everything associated with them. He
does the best out of all his cousins to become assimilated by going to college
and living in San Francisco.
Juanita is a character that I would give a
3 to because she is a loving wife. She is the epitome of a wife and what a good
wife should be. Although I do have issue with her docility, she is nevertheless
a great mother and above all a good friend.
Lola is one that I would give a 5 to
because of her historical amnesia. She is easy to forget her husband and
immediately goes for her best friend’s husband. She is sinister in that she
works people in her favor and I would see her as a tempting-like character.
I would give JoEl a 6 because he suffers from
nightmares and dreams. He undergoes a lot of pain from his father’s death and
attempts to see him and tell him that he loves him very much.
Nina is a character that I’d give a 4 to
because she is the caregiver of the children and attempts to teach them only English.
As for Lana I would give her 1 because she is
not docile and does not conforms to society. She is part of a band and hangs out
with pachucos.
