JE #1A

I vaguely remember Speedy Gonzalez growing up. Those cartoons would pass on television once in a while, yet I always knew who he was. During recess my friends and I would call the fastest kid on the playground Speedy Gonzalez, he was always depicted as the fast Mexican kid. The "Arriba! Arriba! Arriba!" came naturally, it was a reference in characteristics in an individual. I never thought of Speedy as a negative depiction of Mexican culture, mainly because he wasn't someone to be ashamed of. Being the fastest kid in the playground meant being chosen first for teams. It was a good thing, Speedy wasn't negative in my eyes. But with knowledge and understanding the historical contents around the era of the cartoons, then it is easy to classify certain scenes in the cartoon AstroDuck as negative.
