JE #2

I honestly believe that on a scale from 1-10 my historical amnesia is at about a 7.  There are so many things that I don't know about my own race.  I feel ashamed that I claim to b a proud Mexican but there are so many things I dont even know about my own country about my own people about all the suffrage that they have gone through.

Growing up I do remember being taught about the US- Mexico war but all I ever really knew about it or was forced to remember for school was that in this War the United States paid Mexico for all the property that once belonged to Mexico.  That was pretty much it and our teachers never really paid much attention to the war.  Sitting back in school I never really paid much attention to it or why we didn't go over it anymore in such detail as we did with the rest of the wars the U.S was involved with like the WWI or WWII or the Vietnam war.

After class on Tuesday though once we had finished analyzing the treaty of Gudalupe-Hidalgo though it made me angry it made me angry at myself for not knowing this for not being  informed or for just accepting back then that the U.S paid Mexico for the land it took and now leaning we were cheated out of this land we never saw a dollar for all the land that was taken from Mexico.

Then after reading the first chapter of De León's book and knowing that Anglos from the start came into Texas with the intentions of converting into an Anglo State because Mexicans didn't know how to tun a state.  How Anglos were invited be Mexico to come into Texas but they took advantage of them.  How they came in already with an image of how Mexicans were how they were incompetent how they were lazy how all they wanted to do was party gamble and have a good time.  How Anglos wanted to stay away from Mexicans because they were not in there level.  But yet it was okay to mess with Mexican women but they were scared that Mexican soldiers were after White women.  I ask myself what is about Anglos and there fear that everyone of colored is after the White women what makes her so much better then colored women.  We saw how in the movie of Born in East L.A this was portrayed as well with the White women n the green dress as well.

I think I will just stop with this last quote from the book because I feel like I can go on forever with this issue "I could kill Mexicans as easily as I could deer and turkeys." How many people besides Anglos could have this kind of hate inside them for a race they didn't even know or tried to understand in the first place.  Who besides Anglos can compare the life of a human to that of an animals.  Yet we are forced to sit in these classrooms and learns about how Anglos have done nothing but help the society.  How they are heroes and how we must learn of all there victories there achievements.  We need to understand both sides of the story's before we get misguided and think of Anglos as the supremecy race as they so want us to feel they are.
