JE#1A

The feelings I have towards Speedy Gonzales are very fond ones that I have from my childhood as I grew up in Mexicali. I remember my brother and I sitting cross legged on the floor of our living room watching Looney Tunes just waiting for Speedy's turn to take over the screen. I think my experience with Speedy was different, because it was not until I this class that I watched Speedy in English. I only ever remember watching Speedy in Spanish. As a child I remember never being bothered by his less that appropriate friends or not enjoyed the imagery the cartoon provided. I always related to this cartoon the most because I did know people in my life personally who resembled Speedy and his friends. What we learned in class really made me just a little bit sad because it totally ruined my childhood love for Speedy, sadly. It made me realize that I have began to internalize those negative feelings towards my community, not even in the United States, but actually in Mexico. This means that the colonizers are not only working on a national level but a World wide level. A lot of American medial is purchased world wide, which is full of this kind of messages, that certain groups are lower than. Its sad because it helps the world see, Mexicans specifically in this negative light.
