JE #3B

I always knew the border was a violent place but this article brought to light the severe conditions of the border that I was unaware of. The fact that drones used in Afghanistan are being used on the Sonoran border is startling to me. The U.S.-Mexico border should not be compared to a war zone. The border is the bridge to a better life. But there is no denying the horrific violence that takes place along the border, from killings of border crossers to the murders of the women of Juarez.

Border Patrol is policing any neighborhood with a large Latino population. This is a recipe for disaster. This will result in racial profiling which is rampant in Arizona. This angers me most, when officers attack innocent people who “look” like they might be “illegal.” What does illegal look like exactly? This method will perpetuate the racist ideologies of Latinos and the undocumented community.

They should not be focusing on Latino immigrants who just want to come here for work, for a better life. Their focus on Latino immigrants is causing them to disregard international terrorists, a threat much more dangerous than Latinos coming here for work, in my opinion. The effort and money the government is putting towards expanding a fence around the border is preposterous. They choose to forget that fact that Latino immigrants make up a great percentage of the low wage work force.

People who cross the borders have families, a story, they should not be reduced to a statistic.
