JE#2
It was not until I this class that I knew what the "Lone Ranger" was. With just watching the first 5 minutes of this episode I was appalled at the blunt racism and misconstrued historical presentation of Native Americans. In this episode it seemed like the United States had this really great reciprocal relationship with the Native Americans, where they were given food by the U.S. government and then the Native Americans were happily enjoying their reservation. Furthermore, the depiction of Tonto as well of Native Americans was incredibly stereotypical. Then lastly, the Lone Ranger, the epitome of the White Savior, has to come in and save the simple minded Native Americans. This is very different from Speedy Gonzales because Speedy Gonzales because it was aimed at children. Speedy began to plant the seeds of racism, colonization, and American supremacy. While the Lone Ranger was more targeted at an older audience, which really harvested the racism which began in childhood.
