The title of the article is
the War on the Border but what I got from is the focus on taxpayers money going
towards militarization. I have issues with the article itself, it was too
euphemistic. I can tell that this article is geared towards an audience with
the privilege of documentation and live near the border. The article made it
seem as if the War on the Border was solely between citizens living the US side
and the border patrol. I mean, he talks about where taxpayer money is going as
if that is the only problem with the border. When I see the title of War on the
border I expect more. I expect the article not only to talk about how we are
funding the militarization of the border but how we are killing people, how we
contribute to death, exploitation, abuse, a genocide, a femicide. For me, the
title was inappropriate.
Also, he says the border “has become” a
militarized zone. The context he sees it in is the influx of Border Patrol and
technology after 9/11. He failed to recognize that the border has been in the
process of militarization since before the actual border. It has been in the
process of militarization since the presence of the Texas Rangers. Veterans of
the confederacy after the civil war were employed as Texas Rangers. So the
militarization is the natural order of the border and I can argue that is when
the war had begun. Only, after the US-Mexico war there has been a consistent
state of Low intestity warefare!
The article does not mention
the deaths that have occurred and occur weekly at the border. The author does
not mention the construction of the border is killing people. The US government
knew immigration would not stop with the construction of the border but instead
they are trying to make it so difficult that it is deadly!
They are funneling people
into a death trap.
The article title is a
misnomer and does not cover half of the story of the War at the border.
