Welcome all to the first annual Border Conference of Mestiza Consciousness interview. We have gathered five special guests to join us for the interview and let’s bring them out. We have David and Diego from the movie Strawberries and Chocolate, Concha from the novel “The Flower in the Skull, Rudy from the movie Born in East L.A. and Felix from the novel “The Rain God”.

All right let’s begin with our first question.

Q-Diego, what would you have to say to our Felix regarding his sexuality?
Diego-Well one of the things that would say is that being who you are is something innate in each one of us and to not achieve it is a demonstration of a lack of humanity. You should not be afraid of who you are.
Felix- I do not know what you’re talking about in the first place. Second of all, if you’re alluding to the possibility that I may be homosexual, then you must be delusional. Besides, you live your life as a marginalized person and get looked down upon by everyone in your immediate surrounding. I don’t see how you can call that living like a human in any sense. Another thing, El Paso isn’t Cuba so the social location is different, no comparison.
Q-Whoa whoa getting a little heated up in here. Let’s move on to the next question. This one goes to Concha and Rudy. What did you discover in your respective experiences of suffering from historical amnesia?
Rudy- Homes I don’t know what you mean by historical amnesia, I’m an American citizen and that’s it.
Concha- Well growing up it was difficult to maintain any sense of my historical past because I didn’t have any means to recollect information regarding the past. I had to rely on oral stories. I wish I ‘d paid more attention to my mother growing up.
Q- Oookaay thank you for that. Now moving on to you David, how has your understanding of queer people changed after befriending Diego?
David-Well I was very homophobic at first, but have changed my mind little by little. They really are just people and I feel a little ashamed that I thought that way before. Although I do still disagree with going after younger guys for physical satisfaction
Felix-*shifts in seat

Q-Alright thank you for your time and thank you for tuning into our episode, catch us next time when we take on a new group of people. Till next time.
