JE #9: How Border Conscious Am I?

I think I learned immigration law best from reading Entry Denied. Before taking the course I just new about immigration laws today because they affect both my mom and I as immigrants but learning about the history of the border I learned that that laws that are sexist, homophobic, racist, and classist have existed since the border was created.I think out of all Anzalduas theories I understand the Coatlicue theory the best. I had read Borderlands before but I think this is one of those books you need to read multiple times to learn something new each time. This time I felt like I understood the coatlicue step the best because it is the one I am stuck on. The one I don't really understand is entering the serpent. I think I don't understand how it is before coatlicue and I don't know how you can shed your skin and then enter coatlicue.

I am definitely falling into the coatlicue state, the book that has been the best contributor to this experience is Borderlands and Rain God. I'm so glad the break is coming up because i need more "me" time to continue reflecting especially because this class came around the same time that my grandma left back to Mexico and Napolitano was appointed UC president. So my mental, my physical and my overall health have been impacted and I need time to leave UCLA and write more. I would rate my border consciousness a 7 out of 10 because i feel like i have the tools to get me to this consciousness but i need more time of reflection and understanding everything as a whole.
